About The Position

Nurse Clinician, Trauma Performance Improvement is responsible for implementing and overseeing performance improvement initiatives specifically focused on trauma care. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to assess, analyze, and enhance trauma care processes, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and adherence to best practices. Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director to assist in assuring health programs and processes are aligned with the Level I Trauma Center standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons and with the healthcare system’s strategic plan. May assist with patient care within the scope of practice as a licensed Registered Nurse. Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.
• Two (2) years of RN experience.
• Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Five (5) years trauma patient care in at least one of the following areas: critical care, emergency medicine, surgical services, or pre-hospital services.
• Performance improvement experience.
• Experience at an academic medical center and/or trauma center.
• Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates closely with the Trauma Program leadership to ensure compliance with the American College of Surgeons standards related to trauma performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS).
• In collaboration with Trauma Program leadership, is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of the Trauma Performance Improvement Program, which encompasses all areas and disciplines.
• Monitors and evaluates clinical processes, care, and outcomes of injured patients from the time of injury through the continuum of care to ensure that care is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.
• Incorporates evidence-based practice to facilitate improved clinical outcomes. Emphasis will be placed on initiatives to increase efficiencies and reduce variability, errors, and defects by utilizing program data and current trauma best practices.
• Coordinates performance improvement (Pl) activities to address opportunities for improvement, promote loop closure, and enhance clinical outcomes.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships in inter-departmental teams.
• Provides feedback to staff and works with educators, department managers, and other leaders to meet the goals of the department and Trauma Program. Provides feedback and follow-up to referring hospitals, EMS, and air ambulance agencies. Provides resources for patients, families, nursing staff, and other health care professionals in the areas of expertise.
• Assists with the maintenance of the trauma registry.
• Assists manager in improving nurse-sensitive indicators, rounds with nursing staff assessing knowledge and compliance of staff. Tracks programmatic quality indicators and participates in quality/performance improvement activities.
• Provides clinical research support to recruit and screen potential research subjects, carry out research protocol as written, monitor patient compliance, and compile, retrieve, and analyze research data.
• Collaborates with other health professionals in the provision of patient care while maintaining standards of care utilizing the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses as the foundation for nursing practice and meeting the standards for regulatory requirements for state and federal agencies.
• Participate in the planning, developing, facilitating/coordinating, and evaluation of interdisciplinary patient care including nursing and various clinical disciplines. Rounds with the physician team as directed. Conducts patient and family education and discharge planning.
• Participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care for the assigned patient population as a registered nurse. Provides direct patient care as required.
• May complete unit/department specific duties as outlined in department documents.
