About The Position

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing required; Bachelor's degree (B.S.N.) preferred.
  • 1-2 years of professional nursing experience; at least 1 year of telephone triage and pediatric experience required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the District of Columbia; CPR certification required within 90 days.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices.
  • Administers prescribed medications, vaccines, treatments, and procedures in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination.
  • Screens patients for appropriate information and instructs them in the collection of samples and tests.
  • Performs patient telephone triage, assesses needs, and coordinates with medical staff.
  • Monitors phone notes to assure timely response to all calls and appropriate resolution of patients' needs.
  • Triages walk-in patients and provides guidance on obtaining appointments or referrals.
  • Dispenses telephone advice and recommendations from the provider as requested.
  • Assists in supervising other clinical staff in absence of Nurse Clinician II.
  • Educates patient and family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
