About the Position: This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Fort Bliss, TX. . Fort Bliss is a United States Army post in New Mexico and Texas, with its headquarters in El Paso, Texas. Established in 1848, the fort was renamed in 1854 to honor Bvt. Lt. Colonel William W.S. Bliss, U.S. Army officer, private secretary and son-in-law of President Zachary Taylor. Fort Bliss has an area of about 1,700 square miles. It is the largest installation in FORSCOM (United States Army Forces Command) and second largest in the Army overall, the largest being the adjacent White Sands Missile Range. The portion of the post located in El Paso County, Texas, is a census-designated place with a population of 8,591 in the 2010 census. Fort Bliss provides the largest contiguous tract of restricted airspace in the Continental United States, used for missile and artillery training and testing, and at 992,000 acres has the largest maneuver area, ahead of the National Training Center, which has 642,000 acres. Since 1921, William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) has provided care for Military Personnel and their eligible Family Members. WBAMC is one of two trauma centers in El Paso County and consists of twelve stories that cover more than a half-million square feet of floor space. WBAMC provides trauma care to the surrounding community and a full range of medical care to Fort Bliss, which supports over 19,000 troops and will grow to over 37,000 as it undergoes the largest post expansion in the Army. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Emergency):Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing professional nursing care to patients, administering medications, and providing education to patients or nursing staff.OREducation: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirements below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing programOR3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education from a professional nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Emergency Department Clinical Nursing care to patients of any age group.
  • Quickly assess incoming patients and prioritize patient care based on need, available staffing, and patient acuity.
  • Monitor and oversee staff performance to ensure that work is accomplished in an acceptable and timely manner.
  • Balance risk of patients within the waiting room versus patients in treatment rooms by optimizing patient rooming, communicating, and expediting patient discharges.
  • Oversee nursing operations, within Emergency Department, in the absence of the Clinical Head Nurse.
  • Performs Other Duties as Assigned
