About The Position

The Nurse (Clinical Coach) position at the Northern Navajo Medical Center Pediatric Outpatient Clinic in Shiprock, NM, is designed to facilitate the transition of new nurses into the department through a structured clinical coaching program. This role encompasses a variety of administrative and clinical duties, including patient care, staff communication, and performance evaluation, while ensuring compliance with federal guidelines and nursing standards.

Requirements

  • A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited program is required.
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse from a U.S. state or territory is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service is required.
  • Experience conducting in-service training to healthcare workers on performance improvement and nursing education programs is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with hospital regulatory agencies.
  • Certification in a specialty area of nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the transition of a preceptee to assigned department/unit.
  • Maintains open communication channels between staff.
  • Assesses the preceptee's past experience to determine learning needs and styles.
  • Develops goals and objectives progressively in collaboration with the preceptee.
  • Chooses the preceptee's assignment based on educational goals and objectives.
  • Assists the preceptee in organizing and prioritizing tasks and provides daily feedback.
  • Evaluates, documents, and provides written evaluations of the preceptee's performance.
  • Participates with the hospital Performance Improvement Coordinator to ensure compliance with federal guidelines and nursing standards.
  • Assists with patient care in the assigned department or unit utilizing the nursing process.
  • Coordinates patient care activities to ensure smooth facility operation during various shifts.
  • Promotes patient advocacy and education.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, and support staff.
