About The Position

The position involves providing professional nursing services by administering anesthesia to surgical patients. The nurse anesthetist prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients to reversibly depress bodily functions or desensitize them, allowing for the performance of medical or surgical procedures. The role requires a thorough understanding of both physiological and psychological factors that influence anesthetic management, as well as the ability to monitor patients effectively during procedures.

Requirements

• Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
• Current Texas Licensure as APRN
• Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetist certification (AANA)
• BLS, ACLS and/or other specialty certification as required by department
• Must meet 2 of 6 established requirements: Experienced in a major medical center or major trauma receiving hospital; Skilled in administration of varied regional anesthesia techniques; Skilled in the placement of arterial lines, CVP, and PA lines; Active pursuit of continuing education credits; Experienced in academics; Experienced as an R.N. in critical and acute care areas.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures.
• Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient to ascertain physiological and psychological factors influencing anesthetic management.
• Monitors the patient in the operating room to maintain homeostasis and prevent unnecessary injuries.
• Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart for patient care, teaching, study, and legal documentation.
• Provides clinical supervision or guidance to nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students.
• Responds to emergency situations as they arise.
• Manages Human Resources activities including recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
