The Nurse Aide/Healthcare Technician (CNA) assists in providing patient care under the direct supervision and control of the Registered Nurse. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe patient environment and performs job responsibilities in a safe manner. Maintains clinical and professional competencies as appropriate to the needs of the patient population served.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I or with the North Carolina Board of Nursing as a Nurse Aide II.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Must speak and understand English in good understandable terms.
  • Must have manual and finger dexterity.
  • Physical abilities testing required.
  • EPIC registration and scheduling training classes required upon hire.
  • Within 6 months to 1 year of hire, teammate will attend the required training, education, and competencies.
  • Prior to provision of care, all nursing personnel, will be provided training or have documentation of training, as per “10 A NCAC 13B.2028 STAFF TRAINING FOR INPATIENT REHABILITATION FACILITIES OR UNIT.”
  • Teammates whom have obtained and have current Phlebotomy Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology, which is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying agencies (NCCA) and issues CPT certifications through National Heath-career Association Inc., are able to perform phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

  • Supports patients/residents with activities of daily living.
  • Assists patients/residents with personal hygiene.
  • Takes vital signs and height and weight measurements.
  • Feeds and ambulates patients/residents according to specific procedures.
  • Maintains patient/resident's rooms in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Observes and reports changes in patient/resident conditions.
  • Orients patients/families to unit and instructs patient on safety measures.
  • Assists with clerical work such as, including answering phones, entering data and maintaining medical records.
  • Maintains stock supply items in inventory management.
  • Performs duties as outlined in the scope of Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II tasks (per North Carolina Board of Nursing Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II Tasks List).
  • Perform technical tasks with appropriate training such as administering a 12- Lead Electrocardiogram test and routine venipuncture.
  • Teammate must be able to provide nursing services in all inpatient units at Carolinas Rehabilitation
  • Assists professional staff with Physical, Occupational, Speech or Recreational Therapy treatments, including management of non-clinical paperwork.
  • Supervises patient exercise programs and functional therapeutic activities in Physical and Occupational Therapy under the direct guidance of therapist or an assistant.
  • Prepares modalities for the Physical and Occupational Therapy licensed staff.
  • Assists with inpatient scheduling, compliance, and charge reconciliation PRN.
  • Screens and registers patients for outpatient wheelchair seating clinic.
  • Communicates with therapists, physicians, and vendors to manage documentation requirements.
  • Performs sterile dressing changes/wound care for wounds over 48 hours old.
  • Placing urinary catheterization, including straight catheters and indwelling foleys.
  • Assist with the care of established colostomy/ileostomy/ostomy care and irrigation.
  • Assist with the patient receiving Oxygen therapy by setting up and monitoring the flow rate of the oxygen
