About The Position

Nucor Towers & Structures is seeking an effective trainer, mentor, and process-minded individual to join our team as a Weld Tech/Instructor. This position involves providing classroom and shop floor training to new and current fitters and welders, administering weld qualification tests in accordance with AWS D1.1, and supporting production on welding-related issues. The Weld Tech/Instructor will be responsible for maintaining and updating the weld certification tracker, ensuring all fitters and welders are compliant, and performing welding equipment and flux oven calibration as required. Additionally, the role includes reviewing welding requirements to maintain compliance with customer specifications, implementing a monthly plant audit program for all welding processes, and maintaining continuity logs and reports. The Weld Tech/Instructor will also help reduce costs through continuous improvement activities that enhance safety, quality, and productivity, evaluate processes to improve weld parameters and efficiency, and assist maintenance in troubleshooting welding equipment issues.

Requirements

  • 2-year degree from an accredited technical college or equivalent experience in welding.
  • Experience with Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Metal Cored Arc Welding (MCAW), and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) processes.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Certified Welding Educator (CWE).
  • Must be able to pass 3G Weld Testing.
  • Competent in setting up welding and cutting equipment including auto welder.
  • Working knowledge of metal properties, blueprint/shop drawing interpretation, and fabrication practices.
  • Ability to effectively assess and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in performing AWS D1.1 welder qualification tests and records.
  • Previous teaching experience in welding disciplines.
