About The Position

The Nuclear Planning Specialist develops maintenance plans and packages work orders used to support a wide variety of maintenance tasks, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and plant modifications. The successful candidate will be adept at standard Microsoft Office Suite computer tools and must be able to quickly learn new programs used for planning and reporting. The Nuclear Planning Specialist will perform planning walkdowns, research maintenance history, and consult drawings, manuals and procedures to develop accurate and detailed work plans. This position requires excellent communication with maintenance craft, management, engineering, operations, and vendors, as well as a commitment to excellent customer service. Shift work will be required at times, and call-out duties will occur on a rotational basis. Southern Nuclear, a subsidiary of Southern Company, manages and operates six nuclear power electric generating plants that provide approximately 20 percent of the electricity used in Alabama and Georgia. Southern Nuclear is leading the nuclear renaissance by building the first new U.S. nuclear reactors in more than 25 years. When completed, the two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors currently under construction at Plant Vogtle will make the facility the largest in the U.S. with four reactors on one site. Requirements

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Four (4) or more years of maintenance experience at a nuclear power plant, related heavy industry, or military equivalent is required.
  • Well organized and capable of handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work in any environment demanded of the workforce, including temperature extremes and elevations.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Must be a change agent, self-motivated and proactive.
  • Must seek continuous improvement for performance and processes.
  • The successful candidate must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintenance work package planning experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Maximo is preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Work Packages is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of codes, standards, and technical specifications - preferred.
  • Working knowledge of plant systems, structures, and components - preferred.
