About The Position

The Nuclear Oncology Physics Fellow will serve under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Physicist. The Fellow will assist with clinical responsibilities related to nuclear oncology physics and will independently complete projects defined within the structured fellowship curriculum. This fellowship is designed to prepare candidates for independent clinical practice as dual-board-certified medical physicists. The curriculum is based on the ABSNM syllabus (5th edition), adheres to CAMPEP standards, and follows the guidelines outlined in AAPM Reports #249 and #249B.

Responsibilities

• Acquire practical experience in the core functions of a nuclear medicine physicist.
• Develop competencies in commissioning, routine quality assurance, and accreditation testing of nuclear medicine imaging and therapeutic systems.
• Gain an in-depth understanding of the physicist's role in facility planning, regulatory inspections, equipment procurement, radiation safety, and administrative oversight.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including internal clinical projects and research activities.
• Perform post-treatment SPECT/CT-based dosimetric calculations for therapies utilizing Yttrium-90 (Y-90) and Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) radiopharmaceuticals.
• Conduct benchmark testing and quality assurance of quantitative digital (CZT-based) SPECT/CT systems.
• Perform commissioning procedures for radiopharmaceutical dosimetry programs.
• Analyze clinical outcomes and evaluate patient-reported quality of life measures.
• Develop knowledge of preclinical processes related to the production, evaluation, and imaging of novel radiotracers.
• Adhere to all institutional policies, including the Willis Knighton Health (WKH) Code of Conduct and established service excellence standards.
• Comply with patient safety protocols and quality improvement initiatives relevant to the scope of the position.
• Consistently apply the C.I.CARE communication framework (Connect, Introduce, Communicate, Ask, Respond, Exit) when interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
• Observe all hospital protocols related to infection prevention and transmission-based precautions.
