This role provides quality care to patients receiving diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures, specifically Nuclear Medicine and PET exams. The technologist is responsible for explaining procedures, assisting with patient/family education, keeping them informed of progress, and ensuring radiologic and clinical care. The position involves setting up imaging rooms, acquiring, processing, and photographing optimum exams for diagnostic interpretation, and operating various diagnostic equipment. Adherence to safety requirements, radiation safety standards, and accurate patient care documentation and billing procedures are essential. Effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members is also a key aspect of the role. All levels of experience and education will be considered.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Must be registered in Nuclear medicine with the ARRT or the Nuclear medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality care to the patients receiving diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce their anxiety and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Assists with patient/family education.
  • Keeps patient and families abreast of patient's progress.
  • Provides direct quality care for patients receiving Nuclear Medicine and PET exams.
  • Responsible for radiologic care and assists with clinical care of patient.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations.
  • Sets up imaging rooms to include equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for acquiring, processing and photographing optimum exams for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Seeks assistance when needed.
  • Operates all diagnostic equipment, including Scintillation Cameras, PET Scanners, Uptake Probes, Well Counters, Dose Calibrators and GM Meters.
  • Requires knowledge of procedural supplies and location of supplies.
  • Ensures that imaging rooms are stocked.
  • Follows all safety requirements of the hospital and department.
  • Practices radiation safety standards to prevent injury to patients and staff.
  • Responsible for completing all aspects of patient care documentation following the established charting procedure.
  • Enters procedures in Radiology Information System to ensure billing of exams/procedure.
  • Prepares billing sheet and submits per guidelines.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, family and other health care team members.
  • May serve as a resource to the Radiologic Technology students.
