A Brief Overview Prepare, administer, and measure radioactive isotopes for therapeutic and diagnostic studies utilizing a variety of radioisotope equipment. Operate Nuclear Medicine and PETCT equipment to demonstrate anatomical or physiological structures of the human body for diagnostic purposes. Produce quality images as directed by radiologists and physicians for the diagnosis or treatment of anatomic or physiologic disorders. Demonstrate knowledge of general and cross-sectional anatomy, technical factors, radiation safety, and basic computer skills. What you will do Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation intravenously to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of a physician. Detect and map radiopharmaceuticals in patients' bodies, using a gamma camera or PETCT to produce photographic or computer-generated images. Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physician's prescription. Process cardiac and other function studies, using computer. Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment and Nuclear Medicine & PETCT imaging equipment. Maintain detailed procedure records Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment. Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures. Prepare stock radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients.
