Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Must be registered in Nuclear Medicine with the ARRT or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality care to patients receiving diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce their anxiety and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Assists with patient/family education and keeps them informed of the patient's progress.
  • Provides direct quality care for patients receiving Nuclear Medicine and PET exams.
  • Responsible for radiologic care and assists with clinical care of patients.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations.
  • Sets up imaging rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for acquiring, processing, and photographing optimum exams for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Operates all diagnostic equipment, including Scintillation Cameras, PET Scanners, Uptake Probes, Well Counters, Dose Calibrators, and GM Meters.
  • Ensures that imaging rooms are stocked and follows all safety requirements.
  • Practices radiation safety standards to prevent injury to patients and staff.
  • Completes all aspects of patient care documentation following established charting procedures.
  • Enters procedures in Radiology Information System to ensure billing of exams/procedures.
  • Prepares billing sheets and submits them per guidelines.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, family, and other healthcare team members.
  • May serve as a resource to Radiologic Technology students.
