About The Position

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nuclear Medicine duties: Utilizes radiation detection to examine internal organ function and structure. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Technologist program.
  • American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification (NMTCB).
  • One (1) year of experience as a Nuclear Medical Technologist.
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Nuclear Medical Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules patients for an efficient patient flow.
  • Checks patient records to ensure completeness of data and ascertains whether examination medications have been given.
  • Prepares and calibrates radio pharmaceuticals and injects patients, using Technetium generator and other radio nuclides.
  • Sets up and maintains accurate records concerning amount of and types of radioactivity given to patient.
  • Positions patient relative to site specific equipment and adjusts controls as necessary.
  • Ensures correct images are done on the computer by giving the correct commands.
  • Brings images to Radiologist for interpretation when completed.
  • Maintains accurate records which conform to N.R.C. regulations.
  • Conducts proper quality control procedures on Radio-pharmaceuticals used as well as proper quality control of function of Gamma Camera and calibrator.
  • Cleans and maintains nuclear medicine equipment, reporting any equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Uses proper technique when working with radioactive material to ensure minimum exposure to patients, self and others.
  • Performs Radiologic examinations and related department duties as requested.
  • Delivers competent care to patients in a continuum of ages from infancy to adult with an emphasis on geriatric patients.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and new developments in Nuclear Medicine service by reviewing journals, attending educational courses, seminars and/or professional meetings.
  • Participates as a member of the Radiation Safety Committee.
