About The Position

DEFINITION Performs specialized diagnostic nuclear imaging studies using a dual-mode scanner to produce high-quality three-dimensional images of the body.

Requirements

  • Option I - PET-CT or SPECT-CT hybrid imaging
  • One year of experience performing nuclear medicine procedures under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility -AND- One year of experience as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) performing computed tomography procedures.
  • Option II - PET-MRI hybrid imaging
  • One year of experience performing nuclear medicine procedures under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility -AND- One year of post registration experience as a magnetic resonance imaging technologist.
  • PET-CT or SPECT-CT hybrid imaging
  • Current State of California Certified Technologist Nuclear Medicine (CTNM) license -AND- current Computed Tomography (CT) certificate issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or current CRT license issued by the State of California.
  • PET-MRI hybrid imaging
  • Current State of California Certified Technologist Nuclear Medicine (CTNM) license -AND- current CRT license issued by the State of California.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized diagnostic nuclear imaging studies using a dual-mode scanner to produce high-quality three-dimensional images of the body.
  • Performs hybrid imaging procedures, obtains, patient history, and monitors patient during procedure.
  • Observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
  • Reviews all images and evaluates them for technical quality.
  • Performs all required quality control procedures on equipment in accordance with departmental procedures and manufacturer's specifications.  On a continuous basis, ensures equipment is functioning properly and advises supervisor of problems.
  • Transfers, positions, and instructs patients in preparation for procedures.
  • Calculates, dispenses, and administers isotopes dosage following established departmental procedures and appropriate safety measures.
  • Performs and documents wipe test and radiation monitoring to adhere to As Low as Reasonably Achievable standards.
  • Performs assigned quality assurance and institutional regulatory procedures.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceuticals according to manufacturer's standards.
  • Performs single-mode nuclear medicine studies, as necessary.
  • Injects contrast for certain hybrid imaging procedures.
  • Performs research under the supervision of a nuclear medicine physician or a radiologist with nuclear medicine certification.
