About The Position

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. DEFINITION Performs specialized diagnostic nuclear imaging studies using a dual-mode scanner to produce high-quality three-dimensional images of the body.

Requirements

Option I - PET-CT or SPECT-CT hybrid imaging
One year of experience performing nuclear medicine procedures under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility -AND- One year of experience as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) performing computed tomography procedures.
Option II - PET-MRI hybrid imaging
One year of experience performing nuclear medicine procedures under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility -AND- One year of post registration experience as a magnetic resonance imaging technologist.
PET-CT or SPECT-CT hybrid imaging
Current State of California Certified Technologist Nuclear Medicine (CTNM) license -AND- current Computed Tomography (CT) certificate issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or current CRT license issued by the State of California.
PET-MRI hybrid imaging
Current State of California Certified Technologist Nuclear Medicine (CTNM) license -AND- current CRT license issued by the State of California.

Responsibilities

Performs specialized diagnostic nuclear imaging studies using a dual-mode scanner to produce high-quality three-dimensional images of the body.
Performs hybrid imaging procedures, obtains, patient history, and monitors patient during procedure.
Observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
Reviews all images and evaluates them for technical quality.
Performs all required quality control procedures on equipment in accordance with departmental procedures and manufacturer's specifications. On a continuous basis, ensures equipment is functioning properly and advises supervisor of problems.
Transfers, positions, and instructs patients in preparation for procedures.
Calculates, dispenses, and administers isotopes dosage following established departmental procedures and appropriate safety measures.
Performs and documents wipe test and radiation monitoring to adhere to As Low as Reasonably Achievable standards.
Performs assigned quality assurance and institutional regulatory procedures.
Prepares radiopharmaceuticals according to manufacturer's standards.
Performs single-mode nuclear medicine studies, as necessary.
Injects contrast for certain hybrid imaging procedures.
Performs research under the supervision of a nuclear medicine physician or a radiologist with nuclear medicine certification.
