About The Position

Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing a variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures.

Requirements

  • A diploma, certification or degree is not required.
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technology (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Nuclear Medicine (2 Years) work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses and administers doses under the direction of a physician.
  • Calibrates equipment.
  • Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ on photographic film.
  • Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers and scintillation detectors.
  • Administers therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under direction of physician.
  • Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Renders appropriate patient care.
  • Explains test procedures and safety precautions to patients and assists them during procedures.
  • Performs PET and other designated research studies in accordance with necessary study procedures so that studies are completed as designed.
