A Brief Overview The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized nuclear medicine and ancillary equipment, prepares, and administers radiopharmaceuticals and ancillary medications to patients to produce images of the human anatomy and its physiology which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. Technologists with NMTCB (CNMT) and/or ARRT R.T.(N) may perform procedures at a technical level that requires sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology; a high degree of technical competency and the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Employees in this position will be responsible for inpatient on-call and shift rotation.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree with a certificate of completion from an accredited Nuclear Medicine program Required
  • At least 1 (one) year of experience Preferred
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or become CNMT registered within 24 months of hire or transfer date Required or Nuclear Medicine Technology - American Registry Radiologic Technologist or become ARRT(N) registered within 24 months of hire or transfer date Required
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two year Required

Responsibilities

  • Review outpatient orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.
  • Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.
  • Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.
  • Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures as required based on physician’s order.
  • Perform Nuclear Medicine procedures using sophisticated radiation-detecting instrumentation to include computer processing and image enhancement and administer radiopharmaceuticals and ancillary pharmaceuticals to perform said procedures.
  • Completion of exam in hospital information system.
  • Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.
  • May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.
