Position Summary Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purpose; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physician to view. Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • Must meet ONE of the following in totality:
  • Maintains current certification as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) –OR
  • Maintains current certification as an (ARRT) (N) American Registry of Radiology Technologists in Nuclear Medicine
  • Must meet ALL of the following:
  • Maintains current Florida State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • None. Must have knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment, procedures, and radiation safety.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
  • Performs all nuclear medicine dynamic, static and functional procedures required by specific studies.
  • Performs SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
  • Performs PET imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directed by interpreting physician, as required.
  • Performs all computer acquisition, and processing and documentation as required by procedure.
  • Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
  • Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
  • Ensures safety of all customers.
  • Responsible for patient and family education of the studies being performed.
  • Orders and administers radiopharmaceuticals including positron emitters as required.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses and calculates exact patient dosages as required by law and maintains records of such.
  • Assists in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user.
  • Participates in the corporate ALARA Radiation Safety Program.
  • Handles, disposes, and decontaminates radioactive materials, while maintaining records of such under the regulations of the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
  • Performs venipuncture and evaluates IV access for the purpose of radiopharmaceutical and medication administration as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also administer contrast as required by guidelines or physician order.
  • Performs quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlined by written procedure or manufactures guidelines.
  • Maintains records as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
  • Performs all safety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
  • Participates in ensuring compliance with applicable regulations including but not limited to OSHA, The Joint Commission, FDA, NRC, EPA, and the Florida Department of Health.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and strategic imperatives.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies, department guidelines, and education requirements.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Participates in Process Improvement activities.
  • May be required to work at any facility.
  • Provides safe patient transport.
  • Demonstrates professional judgment and decision-making skills as required; solicits supervisory input as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the patient studies.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all procedural changes and equipment updates.
