Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purposes; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physician to view. They perform diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), they may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order. They exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintain a demeanor complimentary to quality care. They deliver appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures. They adhere to Orlando Health mission statements and strategic imperatives. They perform all nuclear medicine dynamic, static and functional procedures required by specific studies. They perform SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order. They perform PET imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directed by interpreting physician, as required. They perform all computer acquisition, processing, and documentation as required by procedure. They perform quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlined by written procedure or manufacturers guidelines. They order and administer radiopharmaceuticals including positron emitters as required. They maintain records as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control. They perform all safety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control. They perform venipuncture and evaluate IV access for the purpose of radiopharmaceutical and medication administration as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. If a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), they may also administer contrast as required by guidelines or physician order. They prepare radiopharmaceutical doses and calculate exact patient dosages as required by law and maintain records of such. They assist in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user. They participate in the corporate ALARA Radiation Safety Program. They ensure the safety of all customers. They maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. They maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies, department guidelines, and education requirements.
