Acts as a resource, role model, and/or preceptor to employees and students, which includes training/orienting, providing day-to-day work direction, and giving input on performance. Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of work, monitors productivity, maintains appropriate staffing levels, directs efforts and provides guidance on more complex issues. Assists with human resource responsibilities, which may include interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, providing performance feedback, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale. Assists in interpreting department policies and procedures, and advises and updates staff on procedural changes. Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other imaging department processes and procedures. Participates in the achievement/maintenance of modality accreditation and/or in a quality improvement, patient safety or cost containment project/initiative either at a site, market or system level. Supports the responsible management of resources through monitoring inventory levels, assisting with managing department resources, and/or serving a dual role in multiple departments/sites. Injects all radiopharmaceuticals and pharmacologic stress agents used in procedures observing proper veni-puncture techniques and complying with appropriate radiation safety considerations and techniques. Maintains understanding of prescription and non-prescription drugs used in procedures. Labels and dispenses nuclear pharmacy drugs per physician prescription. Consults with interpreting physician to assure study integrity and completeness. Performs dual-energy and other advanced scanning studies reporting any variances and documents in procedure manual. Performs routine processing of imaging studies. Performs basic routine and cardiac procedures. Performs various quality control and calibration procedures. Reviews and evaluates quality control studies. Maintains records for accreditation and state licensing including radiation safety records. Communicates with patients to ensure an understanding of the process including the procedure to how to obtain the results. Relays pertinent information, as needed to appropriate staff and departments. Utilizes the computer in order to evaluate studies for potential problems and reports them appropriately. Completes documentation for procedure manual. Maintains health information records and documentation in accordance with various regulating agencies and department guidelines. Performs sorting / charges, coding and study triage with minimal to no guidance. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
