Nuclear Island Mechanical System Integration Engineer The Nuclear Island (NI) Mechanical System Integration Engineer leads the sodium leak containment and collection system design team and provides in-person integration and oversight support for various NI ancillary and radwaste systems owned by the Natrium EPC partner located in Reston, VA. The NI Mechanical System Integration Engineer also provides leadership, integration, and support for Natrium's sodium fire protection design. This position supports and reports to TerraPower's EPC Design Integration Senior Manager. The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative design support and oversight for a wide range of nuclear island supporting systems, with emphasis on sodium fire protection, leak detection, collection, and containment. Support and oversight includes cross functional and inter-disciplinary integration, review of deliverables for technical accuracy, and integration with licensing, safety analysis, and PRA. The NI Mechanical System Integration Engineer will work as part of a high performing team of engineers.

Requirements

  • Position is based in TerraPower EPC partner's office in Reston, VA or at TerraPower headquarters in Bellevue, WA and is required to be in-office three days per week.
  • The successful candidate will display leadership skills by proactively driving cross functional design collaboration and integrating TerraPower's licensing strategy at the system and component level, including application of LMP to support system safety classification.
  • Broad understanding of sodium leak containment and fire mitigation design in nuclear power plants, including development of licensing and engineering design basis.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant design experience in nuclear power plant design or modifications.
  • The candidate must be team oriented, and able to work effectively with geographically distributed and possibly international design team members.
  • Candidate should have broad based technical and engineering skills and experience leading an integrated cross functional design team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to convey critical design integration information to senior management, the engineering team, customers etc.
  • Ability to work in a conceptual design and first of a kind environment that require the ability to use good engineering judgement and identify needed design progress to achieve key project objectives.
  • Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, able to communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Leads engineering and design for sodium leak detection and containment system.
  • Supports development of Natrium plant sodium fire protection strategies and associated design of plant sodium containment systems, structures, and components.
  • Provides integration and oversight to geographically diverse team members to develop nuclear island ancillary system deliverables.
  • Provides support for radwaste and nuclear island auxiliary systems owned by TerraPower's Natrium EPC partner.
  • Support development of nuclear island components in the plant 3D model for systems for which candidate has design and oversight responsibility.
  • Works closely with TerraPower partners or Architect/Engineer firm(s) to establish and control interfaces to interfacing systems and structures.
  • Supports interface with other plant design departments, including licensing, safety analysis, and PRA, including support of safety classification using the Licensing Modernization Program (LMP).
