About The Position

At Antares, our long-term mission is to make clean energy abundant from Earth to the Asteroid Belt. We’re fueled by the belief that advanced nuclear energy can strengthen our military, solve the climate crisis, elevate global living standards, and expand humanity's presence in outer space. To achieve our mission, we’re building mass-producible, inherently safe, deployable microreactors that can be used terrestrially, underwater, and in space. The nuclear engineering team at Antares is responsible for nuclear design, analysis, instrumentation, and controls for all Antares reactors. We are nuclear engineers, software engineers, and physicists who joined Antares from advanced reactor vendors, aerospace companies, national laboratories, and top universities. We're here because of the mission: making nuclear power available anywhere it's needed--on Earth and beyond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 4+ years of experience testing and developing instrumentation and controls systems in nuclear, aerospace, defense, or other high reliability environments
  • High proficiency working with thermal sensors including thermocouples, RTDs (Resistant Temperature Detectors) and/or neutron sensors
  • High proficiency working with DAQ modules including Labjacks and National Instruments CDAQs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python programming
  • Working proficiency with C/C++
  • Working proficiency with PLC programming
  • Experience with ethernet and serial devices interfaces in a test-stand context
  • Experience operating thermal chambers, vibe tables, and shock test stands
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear test plans, procedures, and reports, and to communicate findings to multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience working with radiation sources in a test environment
  • Experience calibrating neutron sensors
  • Nuclear reactor operator experience
  • Experience developing Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for nuclear reactor operations

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and Controls teams to design and implement Hardware in the Loop (HITL) test stands and platforms
  • Design around, and operate, and build test stands involving thermal chambers, vibe tables, shock fixtures, vacuum, and gaseous purge systems
  • Synthesize and execute on test stand requirements per I&C given requisite test objectives for nuclear sensing Devices Under Test (DUTs), and requisite proxies for nuclear sensors
  • Synthesize and execute on test stand requirements per I&C given requisite test objectives for coupled electromechanical-nuclear-sensor DUTs
  • Write and maintain test code, which interfaces with DAQs, CD&H systems of commercial and custom in-house design varieties
  • Aid design engineers with I&C component/vendor selection, system-level peer-review, synthesis of nuclear environments, simulation/model correlation
