About The Position

The Nuclear Equipment Operator position at Constellation Energy is an entry-level role within the Operations job family, designed to lead to licensing as a Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator. The role involves hands-on operation and monitoring of nuclear station equipment, requiring candidates to undergo a year of initial non-licensed operator training before assuming shift duties on an operations team. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of non-generating nuclear power facility experience (e.g., Navy Nuclear training/experience or experience at a DOE facility).
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related science program.
  • 43 credit hours of post-secondary education with at least 75% in advanced math, physics, chemistry, or engineering/engineering technology.
  • 1 year of Power Plant Experience in fossil-fueled or nuclear-fueled electric power production plants.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in petrochemical process plants or steam propulsion plant design, construction, technical support, operation, maintenance, or training instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, control, and operate nuclear station equipment from the control room.
  • Start, stop, control, and monitor nuclear reactor and auxiliary reactor systems as required for plant operations.
  • Control steam turbine, main generator, and auxiliary turbine generating equipment to maintain maximum station capability.
  • Start, stop, adjust, test, and operate pumps, valves, switchgear, and other system components as directed.
  • Monitor recorders and indicators for nuclear and turbine generator systems, ensuring operation within prescribed limits.
  • Respond to plant indicators and alarms, identifying emergency conditions and initiating designated actions.
  • Perform operations in accordance with administrative procedures and NRC license, including shift turnovers and log maintenance.
  • Mitigate consequences of plant transients and be familiar with emergency operating procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the station fire brigade and function as fire brigade leader when required.
  • Assist shift supervision in directing and coordinating actions of personnel assigned to the station operations.
  • Identify and correct deficient conditions using the station Corrective Action program.
  • Initiate Emergency Plan as per implementing procedures.
  • Implement tagging and system out-of-service requests, directing others as necessary.
  • Manipulate controls and observe nuclear and radiation monitoring instruments during reactor refueling, assisting as needed.
  • Operate station communications equipment as required.
