Requirements

  • Superior communication, synthesis, and writing skills.
  • Ability to analyze information from multiple disciplines and communicate results effectively.
  • Familiarity with programs of other agencies, including the Department of Energy and Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and assist with reviews.
  • Skills to organize teams, manage meetings, and supervise report production.
  • Familiarity with international organizations involved in nuclear waste management.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate nuclear facility design, licensing, and construction plans to ensure compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of spent nuclear fuel management and high-level radioactive waste processes.
  • Provide detailed information on developments affecting the Department of Energy's waste management system.
  • Draft correspondence and reports in response to inquiries from Congress, state and local governments, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend DOE meetings and review documents to stay informed on the implementation of waste management programs.
  • Analyze DOE implementation plans and meet with representatives to assess the status of recommendations.
  • Represent the Board at technical meetings and interactions with Congress and other agencies.
  • Assist other professional staff members in executing their duties as assigned.
