About The Position

Omega Technical Services is seeking a highly experienced Nuclear Criticality Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support nuclear safety program activities at a Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear facility. This position provides senior-level technical expertise in nuclear safety with a focus on nuclear criticality safety, operational safety reviews, and organizational performance improvement within highly regulated nuclear environments. The selected candidate will serve as a strategic advisor and technical reviewer, supporting the evaluation of nuclear facility operations, investigation of nuclear safety issues, and development of corrective and preventative improvements to strengthen nuclear safety programs. The role requires extensive experience within DOE and/or NNSA nuclear facilities and the ability to perform independent technical reviews, causal analysis, and assessments of safety processes and organizational effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience supporting DOE nuclear facilities or the NNSA complex in nuclear safety roles.
  • Demonstrated expertise in nuclear criticality safety and the resolution of complex nuclear safety issues.
  • Proven experience conducting technical reviews, safety assessments, and operational evaluations of nuclear facilities.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with demonstrated success in problem solving and causal analysis.
  • Experience coordinating reviews and assessments designed to improve nuclear safety organizational performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and implement operational or organizational improvements based on technical findings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex safety issues to technical and management audiences.
  • Ability to work independently as a technical subject matter expert in a highly regulated environment.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Candidate must have an active Department of Energy Q Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting DOE or NNSA nuclear facilities in a criticality safety or nuclear safety program leadership role.
  • Experience performing independent safety reviews or oversight assessments for nuclear operations.
  • Familiarity with DOE nuclear safety requirements, including DOE Orders, nuclear safety basis documentation, and safety analysis processes.
  • Experience participating in operational event investigations and corrective action development.
  • Demonstrated success supporting organizational safety culture improvements in nuclear environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level subject matter expertise in nuclear criticality safety and nuclear safety program oversight within DOE nuclear facilities.
  • Conduct independent technical reviews and assessments of nuclear facility operations, safety documentation, and operational practices.
  • Evaluate nuclear safety issues and support investigation, resolution, and corrective action development.
  • Perform causal analysis and problem-solving activities related to nuclear safety performance and operational events.
  • Support coordination, review, and assessment activities aimed at improving nuclear safety organizational performance.
  • Develop and recommend operational or organizational improvements based on technical findings and safety evaluations.
  • Provide expert input on nuclear safety requirements, regulatory compliance, and best practices within the DOE/NNSA complex.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, safety organizations, and facility management to support safe and compliant nuclear operations.
  • Prepare technical reports, assessments, and recommendations for program leadership and stakeholders.
