About The Position

Performs Nuclear Cardiology studies, which require theoretical insight and experience. Exercises complex skill, judgment and knowledge of the principles and methods of the Nuclear Cardiology, including SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET/CT. Serves as a preceptor in the onboarding of newly hired Technologists directly orienting to equipment, imaging routines and procedures, computer programs and software, as well as departmental and hospital policies. Possesses subject matter expertise in several different areas of Nuclear Cardiology that could include, but not limited to, diagnostic testing and competently operating a variety of different vendor platforms and performing departmental QA procedures. Responsible for effectively troubleshooting issues that arise within the department and deal with accordingly. Acts as a subject matter expert in downtime procedures and acts as super-user when new equipment or programs are introduced to the department. Assists in other areas of the department when the need arises. Represents the department on various committees such as safety, quality, and operations groups. Takes responsibility to prepare the department and staff for NYSDOH and TJC evaluations. Assists in advanced radiopharmaceutical regulatory policies, special radiopharmaceutical ordering. Assists in all aspects of IAC accreditation as well as IAC readiness. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program and 4 years of experience as a Nuclear Cardiology Tech required Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required
  • (N) ARDMS or ARRT - Nuclear Med Tech NYS licensure in Nuclear Medicine or a 6-month temporary license when accredited program is passed and new hire is waiting to pass the NMTCB exam and/or the ARRT(N) exam required
  • CNMT - Certified Nuclear Med Tech by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) required or CRT - Certified Radiologic Technologist required and NMTCB - Nuclear Medicine Tech by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required

Nice To Haves

  • CT - Cytotechnologist by NMTCB or ARRT for attenuation correction or diagnostic CT preferred
  • NMTCB - Nuclear Medicine Tech preferred

Responsibilities

  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
  • Performs nuclear cardiology imaging in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
  • Orders, prepares, administers, stores and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Ensures proper imaging techniques related to patients age and ability to understand procedure, such as sight, hearing needs, ability to cooperate, to ensure image quality is successfully obtained.
  • Reviews patient information and interpretation of data to confirm an appropriate plan and intervention specific for age related needs and provision of care.
  • Serves as a preceptor in the onboarding of newly hired Technologists directly orienting to equipment, imaging routines and procedures, computer programs and software, as well as departmental and hospital policies.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies in the Clinical Nuclear Cardiology rooms.
  • Other duties as assigned
