About The Position

1. Create and implement a prospect management system to include processes and policies that identifies, screens and rates prospects, defines prospect management workflows, timelines and metrics. 2. Analyze the confidential and relevant information to assess financial capacity and recommend cultivation strategies. Distinguish top tier donors with indicators that detail the donor’s propensity, affinity and capacity for major gifts to Norfolk State University. 3. Design a range of research reports on prospects based on a combination of data from the donor database, available financial records, organizational background, real estate ownership and other ethical intelligence gathering techniques that provides high quality research on individuals, corporations, and foundations. 4. Assign new prospects to major gift officer portfolios from multiple referral sources, matching prospect interest with fundraising priorities. This will include periodic review of CRM records to identify existing lower tier donors with major gift potential and to qualify major gift donors ready for their next major gift. 5. In consultation with the Assistant Vice President for Development, ensure that prospects are guided through the philanthropic donor cycle through regular portfolio review sessions and moves management discussions with development officers. 6. Use prospect research to provide analytical support and regular reports for new fundraising initiatives. 7. Develop relationships with fundraisers that foster an understanding of applications for prospect management. 8. Provide general support to development staff and work on special projects when necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing a comprehensive database management system using analytical skills to organize information, including running query-based reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in prospect research, development, or an information-related field, preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Ability to recall, recognize, and communicate interrelated information pertaining to donors and prospects.
  • Experience with prospect research programs such as Raiser’s Edge, Target Analytics, Salesforce, iWave, Lexis/Nexis, ZoomInfo and/or WealthEngine.
  • Strong computer skills and demonstrated background in internet-based research.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, required to function effectively among development officers, leadership, and other campus constituencies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, yet demonstrate the ability to work independently, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
