About The Position

The NSO Specialist - Communications plays a central role in coordinating all communication efforts for New Student Orientation (NSO). This position supports the planning and execution of orientation programs and collaborates with campus partners and internal teams to ensure smooth communication flows between departments, student leaders, and incoming students. This role includes managing and organizing the NSO Email Newsletter, Canvas Course, and all formal messaging. The specialist will also take meeting notes, draft reports and updates based on team inputs, and help ensure alignment across all communication channels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).

Nice To Haves

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent note-taking and organizational abilities.
  • Experience using tools like Canva, Google Workspace, Canvas LMS, or email marketing platforms (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Previous experience in orientation, event planning, or student leadership is a plus.
  • Current enrollment in a college or university program (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for NSO-related communications (emails, Canvas, newsletters, etc.).
  • Take clear, accurate notes during team meetings and summarize key action items and insights.
  • Create and distribute regular reports and updates to the NSO Manager and team leads.
  • Collaborate with NSO leadership in planning and executing orientation events.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of Team Leads and Orientation Volunteers.
  • Monitor and support Team Leads’ performance and provide constructive feedback when necessary.
  • Respond professionally and promptly to inquiries from students, staff, and campus departments via email, phone, or in person.
  • Represent the university positively in all interactions with campus partners and program participants.
  • Support additional projects or tasks as assigned by the NSO Manager.
