Basic Job Functions:We are looking to hire an experienced mechanic for our direct reduced iron (DRI) facility at Nucor Steel Louisiana, based in Convent, Louisiana. The Material Handling Mechanic performs preventive, routine, and breakdown maintenance on all equipment associated with the safe production of direct reduced iron. This position is responsible for coordinating and completing tasks to ensure reliable operation while developing and maintaining communication across multiple groups of plant personnel including contractors.

Requirements

3 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial facility
candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Nice To Haves

Experience in industrial maintenance of material handling systems and/or rotating equipment. (pumps, gearboxes, etc.)
Experience in stick, mig, and tig welding techniques.
Experience in construction, commissioning, and start-up of industrial equipment.
Demonstrated computer skill set including experience with MS Word, Excel, and AutoCAD.
Technical degree or technical certification.

Responsibilities

Maintain plant equipment including material handling equipment
Perform basic welding, fabrication, and maintenance
Maintenance and repair of conveyor systems
Maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems
Perform computer data entry and preparation of documents
Operate mobile equipment such as cranes, manlifts, forklifts, vehicles
Responsible for the safety of the work area
Perform housekeeping duties in the work area to include shoveling and sweeping
Communicate with production, electricians, and other mechanics about the function of equipment
Work with vendors to ensure adequate supply of materials and inputs
