The Nucor Technical Academy is a specialized training program aimed at equipping individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to become proficient maintenance electricians. This program is designed for candidates who possess a high school diploma or GED and spans a duration of 27 months. The curriculum is a blend of educational instruction, cultural integration, and practical training, drawing from various existing training programs within Nucor. Participants will receive comprehensive classroom education alongside structured hands-on training, ensuring they are well-prepared to enter the workforce as Maintenance Electricians upon completion of the program. The training will take place at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Selected candidates will initially engage in academic coursework online and partake in limited on-the-job training at their sponsoring Nucor division during the first summer and initial fall. Following this, candidates will be required to relocate to Tuscaloosa for the subsequent five semesters, where they will immerse themselves in technical courses and gain practical experience through on-the-job training at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa. Throughout their training, candidates will have opportunities to return to their sponsoring divisions during breaks between semesters, allowing them to maintain connections and apply their learning in real-world settings. Safety is paramount in all roles at Nucor, and candidates must demonstrate a commitment to upholding safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
