About The Position

The Natural Resources Technician position at Rice Lake State Park involves providing technical support for the management and implementation of outdoor recreation programs within Minnesota's state parks and trails. The role includes leading field staff, managing maintenance and rehabilitation projects, analyzing data, and ensuring effective public relations and compliance with state laws.

Requirements

  • Class A Driver's License (CDL) or ability to acquire one within six months of employment.
  • Associate Degree in Natural Resource Recreation Management or closely related area, or two years of relevant experience.
  • Work experience providing work direction to staff, volunteers, or other supplemental work groups.
  • Public contact experience.
  • Interpersonal skills to create and maintain a positive work environment for staff and visitors.
  • Conflict resolution skills to deal effectively with staff and park visitors.
  • Skill in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Communications skills to provide clear instruction and gather information.
  • Ability to operate tractors, trucks, trailers, mowers, chain saws, etc.
  • Ability to acquire Park Ranger Certification and Advanced Chainsaw Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resource Recreation Management or closely related area.
  • Knowledge and experience with GPS and GIS.
  • Equipment operation and routine maintenance experience on outdoor vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience assessing State Park programs and facility condition.
  • Experience providing direction to field staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management and implementation of outdoor recreation programs in Parks and Trails District 9, Area 4D.
  • Assist with the creation of work plans and act as the lead worker of field staff, seasonal staff, green view staff, volunteers and/or crews and contractors.
  • Implement operations and development, maintenance, rehabilitation programs.
  • Analyze data, prepare reports, prepare permit applications, and provide administrative support to the division.
  • Implement visitor and public relations to inform the public and promote positive public relations.
  • Enforce division rules and state laws, respond to emergencies, and implement resource management programs.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned.
