About The Position

The position is responsible for providing assessment, evaluation, and treatment of patients in assigned practices under the delegated authority and supervision of physicians within the scope of medical practice set forth by the State of Michigan and the medical staff of Sparrow Health System. The role includes performing physical examinations, operative and/or invasive procedures, diagnosing and treating simple injuries, consulting with physicians on complex cases, and managing patient care. The position also involves collaborating with the healthcare team, counseling patients on preventative health care, and participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Current Michigan license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
  • Three years experience as a NP/PA in a busy Family Practice or specialty site preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate nursing and medical interventions.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other caregivers.
  • Ability to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients serviced.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in an EMR environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care in assigned practices, including performing physical examinations and operative and/or invasive procedures.
  • Diagnoses and treats simple injuries, consulting with physicians on complex cases.
  • Orders routine laboratory and radiologic studies, and performs/interprets routine laboratory and diagnostic studies, EKGs, PFTs, and audiograms.
  • Assesses patients, documents care provided in the medical record, writes prescriptions, and manages the care of assigned patients for physician review.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team in planning and coordinating care for patients.
  • Counsels patients regarding preventative health care and wellness.
  • Provides formal and informal education programs to practice staff and patients.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives including peer review activities.
