About The Position

The Overnight Surgical Specialty NP/PA provides healthcare services under the direction of collaborating surgeons in ENT, Urology, and Plastic Surgery. This role involves coordinating patient care, implementing healthcare plans, and ensuring continuity of care through collaboration with healthcare professionals. The NP/PA is responsible for evaluating care quality, focusing on patient needs, and contributing to excellence in patient care through various clinical and educational responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in clinical nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program with emphasis on area of certification/licensure.
  • Current Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Michigan.
  • Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the appropriate certifying board.
  • Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited PA program.
  • Current License/Certification as Physician Assistant with the State of Michigan.
  • BLS/ACLS/PALS certification required.
  • Two to three years related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and implements medical and nursing plans of care for acute management of ENT, Urology, and Plastic Surgery patients.
  • Assists with evaluation and triage of emergency room patients.
  • Performs procedures such as cystoscopy or suturing under the direction of collaborating physicians.
  • Provides direct clinical services for patients according to established protocols and evidence-based practice.
  • Orders appropriate diagnostic and laboratory data and communicates results to healthcare providers.
  • Assesses changes in patient status and institutes routine and emergency interventions.
  • Documents plan of care and patient progress in medical records.
  • Evaluates and documents patient outcomes and revises the plan as necessary.
  • Facilitates discharge planning with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Acts as the daily central liaison to all healthcare team members for patient care concerns.
  • Coordinates speech, physical, and occupational therapies.
  • Participates in patient care conferences and peer quality reviews.
  • Explains procedures to patients and families, providing pre-operative teaching and discharge planning.
  • Serves as a hospital resource to staff, patients, and families.
  • Develops and implements a personal continuing education program.
