About The Position

The NP/PA, Surgical functions in a collaborative practice with physician(s) in the outpatient and inpatient setting. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols. Develops and maintains own volume of patients under the supervision of a physician. Provides practice/clinic/call coverage and may round for physician(s) during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital rounding/consultation, assisting in surgery if appropriate and prescriptive authority.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (for APRN)
  • Current Texas professional registered nurse license (for APRN)
  • Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license (for APRN)
  • Certified as a Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (for APRN)
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) (for APRN)
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (for APRN)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery (for APRN)
  • Pediatric nurse practitioner acute care certification required when assigned to Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pediatric Surgery/Trauma (for APRN)
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (for PA)
  • Current Texas professional physician assistant license (for PA)
  • Certified as a PA-C (for PA)
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) (for PA)
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (for PA)
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery (for PA)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified as an RNFA (for APRN)
  • Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred (for APRN)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized area strongly preferred (for PA)
