About The Position

Responsible for providing assessment, evaluation and treatment of patients in assigned Practice(s), under the delegated authority and supervision of the physicians within the scope of medical practice set forth by the State of Michigan and the medical staff of Sparrow Health System. University of Michigan Health-Sparrow is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated, board certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant ’s to join the Behavioral Health team located in Lansing, Michigan. Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures.

  • Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Current BCLS
  • Current State of Michigan APP Certification (NP or PA)
  • Successful completion of hospital accreditation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians and other caregivers
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/ social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.
  • 3 years psych experience required
  • Psych certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in a busy Family Practice or specialty site.
  • Two years’ experience in outpatient setting

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care in assigned Practices, including performing physical examinations and operative and/or invasive procedures as outlined in an individual collaborative agreement with the supervising physicians; diagnosing and treating simple injuries, consulting with Physicians on complex cases, ordering routine laboratory and radiologic studies, and performing/interpreting routine laboratory and diagnostic studies, EKGs, PFTs, and audiograms as outlined in the individual collaborative agreement with the supervising physicians.
  • Assess patients, document care provided in the medical record, write prescriptions and manage the care of assigned patients for physician review; Assist with development of plan of care
  • Performs duties on the Consult and Liaison Team as assigned by Behavioral Health physicians
  • Communicates with physicians, nursing staff, residents and other members of the medical team to maintain current and accurate updates in patient status when appropriate
  • Collaborates with the health care team in planning and coordinating care for patients
  • Counsels patients with regard to preventative health care and wellness
  • Provides formal and informal education programs to practice staff and patients
  • Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives including peer review activities
  • Might participate in some on-call responsibilities
  • Maintains an environment of safety
  • Performs duties on the Consult and Liaison Team as assigned.
  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patients in Behavioral Health in collaboration with the Behavioral Health physician.
