Full time, 40 hrs., 4-10-hr days, M-F The Termeer Center for Targeted Therapies APP provides direct care to the clinical trial eligible oncology population in collaboration with the physician and disease center team. Join a large and supportive ambulatory oncology Advanced Practice Team in a role that specializes in the care of patients with a variety of hematological or solid malignancies being treated with novel therapies in the Termeer Center for Targeted Therapies, Investigational Cancer Therapeutics Program. With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider will promote a collaborative relationship between providers, professional nurses, research personnel and administrative staff, to provide safe, quality care in compliance with clinical trial protocols across the care continuum. Utilizes advanced practice knowledge to identify, evaluate and treat hematology/oncology patients participating in complex clinical trial therapies In compliance with IRB-approved research protocols provides direct patient care in collaboration with clinical trial staff and physician investigators. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, obtaining informed consent, ensuring required data collection, adhering to treatment criteria and dose modification guidelines, prescribing or avoiding supportive/prohibitive therapies as appropriate, grading and attributing adverse events and communicating with institutional or sponsor research support staff in the development of a comprehensive plan of care Performs specialized procedures as mutually agreed upon by collaborating MDs and per protocol requirements Provides first responder coverage for infusion reactions or medical emergencies Supports research efforts to advance knowledge and to promote research-based practice in improving patient outcomes Evaluates current research findings for clinical specialty and determines applicability to unit practice Refers appropriately to MGH Oncology supportive care professionals in order to provide comprehensive care to a diverse patient population Serves as a resource to staff and assists in the development of formal and informal educational programs for the unit-based nursing and support staff in area(s) of expertise. Collaborates with clinical educators and clinical nurse specialists in identifying and promoting the educational needs of the staff Serves on appropriate intra- and interdepartmental committees. Responsible for identifying own learning needs and goals to promote professional growth Maintains and practices in accordance with practice guidelines per state and hospital regulations. Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure

Requirements

  • 3+ years advanced practice and medical oncology experience is preferred.
  • Prior oncology RN experience is preferred for NP applicants.
  • Proficiency with Epic and EMRs preferred.
  • EPIC In-basket management, telemedicine experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with clinical trials preferred.
  • Master's Degree Nursing required
  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Nurse Practitioner [NP] / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse [APRN] [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Experience as a nurse practitioner 0-1 year preferred
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
