About The Position

The Thrift Store Cashier and Sorter plays a vital role in the Northside Neighborhood House's mission by managing cash register operations, providing customer service, and maintaining the sales floor. This part-time position involves processing donations and ensuring a welcoming shopping environment for the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least 1 year of cashier experience preferred.
• Previous work experience in a customer service setting preferred.
• Ability to communicate calmly with diverse groups of people.
• Ability to demonstrate patience with difficult customers.
• Ability to relate to all socio-economic levels with empathy for the underprivileged.
• Ability to take initiative and notice tasks that need to be done.
• Ability to complete tasks independently and work cooperatively with staff.
• Comfort with counting change and bills accurately.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
• Ability to work in various indoor conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash register and handle cash payments and credit card processing.
• Bag merchandise for customers and maintain a presence near the cash register.
• Monitor the front door and ensure security.
• Place new merchandise onto the sales floor and stamp prices during downtime.
• Keep the sales floor orderly and organized, ensuring clothes are off the floor and merchandise is color-coded.
• Process donations and select quality items for the sales floor.
• Physically move recycled donations and trash to designated areas.
• Alert management of potential security issues.
• Greet and interact with customers in a friendly manner, offering assistance and responding to inquiries.
• Introduce promotions and locate merchandise for customers.
