About The Position

The Nonsterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing, compounding, packaging, and labeling nonsterile pharmaceutical preparations in compliance with USP <795>, USP <800>, state and federal regulations, and internal standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role supports pharmacists by ensuring accurate, high-quality compounded medications while maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active Pharmacy Technician registration
  • At least 2 years of pharmacy technician experience, with one year in nonsterile compounding
  • Basic math and pharmaceutical calculations skills
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and SOPs
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, or via virtual meeting
  • Ability to maintain focus in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands and arms, such as typing

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with USP <795> and USP <800> standards
  • Experience with compounding software or pharmacy management systems

Responsibilities

  • Compound nonsterile preparations including creams, ointments, capsules, suspensions, solutions, and powders according to approved formulations and master formulation records
  • Accurately weigh, measure, and mix pharmaceutical ingredients using appropriate equipment
  • Follow USP <795> and USP <800> guidelines and internal SOPs for nonsterile compounding
  • Properly document compounding activities, calculations, lot numbers, beyond-use dates (BUDs), and quality checks
  • Maintain compliance with USP <795>, USP <800>, state board of pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements (as applicable), and company policies
  • Perform and document cleaning, sanitization, and maintenance of compounding areas and equipment
  • Assist with equipment calibration, and quality assurance activities
  • Identify and report deviations, errors, or potential quality issues to the supervising pharmacist
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating raw ingredients and supplies
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for chemicals, excipients, and compounding supplies
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage conditions, and expiration tracking
  • Accurately complete batch records, compounding logs, and cleaning logs
  • Maintain organized records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Assist with audits, inspections, and regulatory visits as needed
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, technicians, and quality staff
  • Support workflow efficiency while maintaining accuracy and compliance
  • Participate in training, competency assessments, and continuing education as required
