About The Position

The Noncredit Older Adult Education Associate (Part-time) Instructor Pool at MiraCosta College is designed to build a pool of qualified instructors for potential future part-time assignments. Instructors will be responsible for planning, organizing, and teaching courses tailored to older adults, utilizing effective pedagogical methods and instructional strategies. This role requires flexibility in scheduling, as assignments may occur during days, evenings, or weekends across various campus locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject taught and either 30 hours of coursework in understanding older adults or one year of professional experience working with older adults.
  • Associate's degree with a major related to the subject taught, two years of occupational experience, and 60 hours of coursework in understanding older adults.
  • Valid California Community College Credential in the discipline area or equivalent qualifications.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in online teaching and educational technologies.
  • Familiarity with course management systems such as Blackboard.
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and develop instructional materials including presentations, lectures, and assignments.
  • Teach courses using effective pedagogical methods to meet learning objectives.
  • Provide prompt feedback on student assignments and evaluate student performance fairly.
  • Maintain accurate course records and submit grades by established deadlines.
  • Be available to students for assistance and maintain a flexible schedule to meet their needs.
  • Collaborate with department chairs and faculty on curriculum development and policy matters.
  • Participate in campus life and contribute to the educational goals of the college.
  • Stay current in academic discipline and maintain necessary certifications.
