About The Position

Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for a Nursing Program Director. The Nursing Program Director is a leadership position providing direction in the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and equitable nursing education by adhering to accreditation standards, fostering student success, effectively managing resources, and promoting an inclusive and positive culture with faculty, staff, students, and community. The Director will provide visionary and strategic leadership that will explore innovative curriculum and pedagogy strategies to prepare students for the ever-changing workforce needs. This is a full-time 12-month administrative civil service and FLSA position and reports to the Dean of Health Professions and STEM.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing from a nursing education program accredited by a national nursing education accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education.
  • Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Washington State.
  • Meet the requirements for program director from the Washington Board of Nursing (WABON) and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a registered nurse.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in full-time teaching in an accredited nursing program.
  • Experience in leading projects and coordinating resources for effective outcomes.
  • Current knowledge of nursing practices at the associate degree program level.

Nice To Haves

  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Acute and Long-term healthcare experience.
  • Five years of experience in full-time teaching and/or administrative positions in an accredited nursing educational program.
  • Multifaceted leadership experience including project coordination, strategic planning, resource allocation, interpersonal collaboration, and reaching effective outcomes, preferably in higher education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Doctorate, preferably in Nursing, from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in managing the day-to-day operations, projects, and goals of the nursing and nurse aid programs.
  • Collaborates with nursing program faculty and staff to develop, implement, and regularly assess learning outcomes and curriculum.
  • Develops course scheduling and staffing in collaboration with faculty and clinical partners.
  • Ensures the nursing program meets or exceeds accreditation standards and complies with all regulations.
  • Recruit, hire train, supervise, and evaluate nursing faculty and staff in a supportive, caring and positive manner providing ongoing and annual evaluation of department staff.
  • Manages the nursing department budget sustainability and ensure necessary resources for student learning.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative and productive partnerships with healthcare organizations, community, and college stakeholders.
  • Evaluates student recruitment and success pertaining to all aspects of the nursing program including collaborating with instruction disciplines and student services.
  • Demonstrates transparent, cooperative, and constructive communication.
  • Maintains proficiency of skill in nursing professional and technical practices by regular participation in local, regional, and state organizations and committees.
  • Promotes a culture of mutual respect, accountability, adaptability, and resilience through equitable, transparent, and sustainable practices.
  • Complies with all college policies, procedures, and labor contracts.
  • Attend and participate in college committees and departmental meetings and represent WCC on community and state-wide groups as needed.
  • Other duties of a similar nature and skill set as assigned.
