About The Position

Berndt CPA LLC is seeking an entrepreneurial-minded Non-Profit Service Leader to launch, lead, and expand our dedicated non-profit services division. This role requires deep expertise in non-profit tax preparation and compliance, along with the vision to drive growth and client impact. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting mission-driven organizations and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment. The Non-Profit Service Leader is responsible for building and leading a high-performing team focused on non-profit clients, driving innovation, ensuring top-tier service delivery, and expanding the firm's presence in the non-profit sector. This role is both strategic and hands-on, blending executive leadership with direct client engagement.

Requirements

  • CPA or equivalent designation required.
  • 7+ years of experience in public accounting or non-profit organizations.
  • Expertise in non-profit tax filings and regulations.
  • Strong business development experience.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
  • Deep understanding of non-profit operations and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the vision, strategy, and growth plan for the non-profit division.
  • Build and manage a team specializing in non-profit services.
  • Promote innovation and best practices in accounting, tax, audit, and advisory.
  • Lead all non-profit tax matters, including preparing and reviewing Forms 990, 990-T, and related filings.
  • Ensure tax planning and compliance with all non-profit clients.
  • Stay informed on evolving tax regulations for exempt organizations.
  • Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national non-profits.
  • Provide tailored services including fractional CFO support and compliance consulting.
  • Representing the firm at industry events and conferences.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities within the non-profit space.
  • Form partnerships with sector leaders and stakeholders.
  • Oversee delivery of tax, audit, accounting, and advisory solutions.
  • Support clients in managing grant compliance, fund accounting, and donor reporting.
  • Recruit and mentor staff to deepen non-profit expertise.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and professional growth.
