The Non-Metallic Engineer at VSE Corporation is a pivotal role focused on supporting design engineering in the development, utilization, and manufacturing of plastic and elastomeric components. This position is integral to ensuring that non-metallic materials such as composites, polymers, and ceramics are suitable for various aircraft components. The engineer will assess these materials based on critical factors including strength, weight, corrosion resistance, thermal stability, and fuel compatibility. Compliance with both internal and industry specifications is a key responsibility, ensuring that all non-metallic components meet the necessary standards throughout their lifecycle. In addition to material assessment, the Non-Metallic Engineer will monitor the performance and durability of these components, conducting in-service inspections and maintenance. Investigating incidents of component failure or degradation is also part of the role, with the aim of implementing preventive measures to enhance reliability. Staying current with industry advancements is crucial; therefore, the engineer will engage with industry standards and participate in research initiatives to explore innovative materials, manufacturing techniques, and design concepts that can improve the performance and efficiency of non-metallic aircraft components. The role may also involve collaboration with suppliers to address material obsolescence and supply chain issues, as well as supporting failure analysis and investigations.
