About The Position

The Non Ferrous Recovery Plant (NFRP) Supervisor is responsible for managing and directing all magnetic, pneumatic, mechanical and physical sorting, loading, unloading, packaging and shipping production processes associated with the NFRP to separate non-ferrous metals from Auto Shredder Residue (ASR), the commodity that is left over after magnets have removed the shredded ferrous metal from the material stream at the shredder.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience working with and around NFRP Plants and the associated equipment and minimum of 3 years previous experience in scrap yard management.
  • Excellent mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and computer aptitude.
  • Interpersonal and supervisory skills are required.
  • Strong ability to handle employee safety and safety concerns.

  • Expert knowledge of non-ferrous processing equipment operating principles.
  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to the scrap metal recycling industry and the ability to convey that knowledge to employees.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Flexible to work off hours, weekends, holidays in an industrial environment which includes being outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the NFRP including transportation of ASR (raw material) from shredder to NFRP, ensuring the NFRP Operator is keeping the plant running in a safe and productive manner, loading and shipping of waste material, waste material sampling per landfill requirements and direct communication with the manufacturer representatives to order wear parts and address any malfunctioning issues that may arise with the various sorting and separating equipment inside the NFRP.
  • Ensure the required equipment maintenance in being completed to avoid production down time.
  • Monitor and maintain superior quality control of the separated, non-ferrous metals by verifying that the detailed specifications of each non-ferrous commodity are being met before the material is packaged and shipped.
  • Ensure that daily, pre-shift equipment inspections are being completed. Monitor and maintain all NFRP production equipment including fork lifts, skid steers, front end loaders and transport trucks. Communicate maintenance and repair requirements to Shredder and Maintenance Superintendent.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety rules and procedures.
  • Willing to train and assist other employees as needed.
  • Ensure a clean, safe and orderly workplace by delegating debris and hazard removal tasks to employees.
  • Direct and coordinate non-ferrous division operations within company policies and procedures.
  • Safety committee member with responsibilities to help conduct safety meetings and promote safe behavior throughout the company.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and daily “5 Minute” Tool Box Safety Talks.
  • Monitor and maintain a well-trained, motivated, and productive work force.
  • Actively involved in establishing safety policies and procedures.
  • Achieve and track established Non-Ferrous Recovery Plant production goals such as volume of ASR processed, types and volumes of non-ferrous metals recovered, percentage reporting and overtime control.
  • Conduct employee reviews and make monetary recommendations.
  • Operate production equipment, when necessary.
  • Attend all scheduled training and meetings.
  • Maintain inventory of all production equipment parts.
  • All other duties as assigned.
