About The Position

In the essential role of Non-Emergency Transport (NET) Driver for Roots, Inc. dba Roots Through Recovery, the incumbent is responsible for the safe, reliable, and timely transportation of clients enrolled in Roots’ housing and treatment programs. This includes transporting clients to and from substance use disorder treatment, mental health services, recovery meetings, program activities, medical appointments, and other approved destinations. The NET Driver serves as a consistent, professional point of contact for clients and plays a critical role in supporting treatment engagement, appointment adherence, and overall program stability. Working collaboratively with housing staff, clinical teams, and program leadership, the NET Driver is expected to uphold Roots’ mission, values, and trauma-informed approach while ensuring compliance with safety standards, agency policies, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a current, valid unrestricted California Commercial Driver’s License with the Passenger (P) endorsement.
  • Must have a minimum of nine (9) years of continuous driving experience licensed in the State of California.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record with no traffic or moving violations within the past seven (7) years.
  • Must carry valid automobile insurance meeting agency requirements.
  • Must meet all requirements of Roots’ insurance carriers and transportation policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism, calmness, and good judgment in dynamic or high-stress situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of course of study in relevant field, preferred.
  • Experience driving large, 12-passenger vans a plus.
  • Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, homelessness, or other vulnerable populations is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in behavioral health, social services, housing programs, or recovery-oriented environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport clients between Roots housing programs and treatment services, including outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential, and other approved levels of care.
  • Transport clients to recovery-related activities including 12-step or alternative recovery meetings, pro-social activities, employment-related appointments, medical visits, court appearances, and other program-approved obligations.
  • Ensure timely pick-up and drop-off of clients in accordance with established schedules and program needs.
  • Operate agency vehicles or approved personal vehicles in a safe, lawful, and responsible manner at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe vehicle environment that is respectful of clients and compliant with safety requirements.
  • Conduct routine vehicle safety checks, report maintenance issues promptly, and ensure vehicles are properly fueled and service-ready.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, trip documentation, mileage records, and incident reports as required by program policy.
  • Communicate effectively with housing staff, clinical teams, and supervisors regarding scheduling changes, client needs, or safety concerns.
  • Support a trauma-informed, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment while interacting with clients, many of whom may have substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, or complex psychosocial needs.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients at all times.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, or client crises during transportation in accordance with agency policies and training.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, licensing requirements, contractual obligations, and local, state, and federal regulations related to transportation and client safety.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Embody the mission, values, and culture of Roots, Inc. dba Roots Through Recovery in all interactions with clients, staff, and community partners.
