About The Position

The position involves developing curriculum, handouts, and learning materials for students preparing for the GED exam. The instructor will effectively teach content and manage the classroom environment to facilitate discussions and support student success. Responsibilities include providing feedback to students, administering tests and quizzes, and collaborating with the Brookdale Testing Center to schedule practice tests and GED subject area tests. The instructor will integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans and utilize relevant technology to support instruction, including online GED resources and learning management systems. Additionally, the role involves updating student progress in shared documents and supporting students with post-secondary activities such as college admissions, military enlistment, or job placement. The instructor may also assist with pre and post-testing assessments as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field in the subject area required; or equivalent combination of education and experience in limited circumstances.
  • 2 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying ages, cultures, and knowledge bases.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, principles, and concepts effectively in individual or small group settings.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills at an intermediate level, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and specialized software programs essential to the learning process.
  • Knowledge of information research strategies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and faculty.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to facilitate discussion and learning in various settings.
  • Fluency in a second language may be required.
  • Discipline-specific skills test may be required.
  • Ability to travel to other sites as needed.
