About The Position

NOCCCD is now accepting applications for Non-Credit Emeritus Instructor: Music Arts for Older Adults Pool-Part-Time at NOCE! Music arts courses involve music appreciation and understanding different varieties of music, musical reminiscence, discussions, and listening to music from different periods and genres. The instructor leads students in sing-alongs and rhythmic activities. Tone chime choir courses provide instruction on handbell performance skills using chime instruments. Senior chorus courses introduce students to choral music and its cultural and historical aspects. Most Emeritus classes may be offered Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 8:30pm. Employees must reside in California while employed with NOCCCD, even during remote work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either thirty hours or two semester units of coursework in understanding the needs of older adults, or one year of professional experience working with older adults.
  • Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, two years of occupational experience related to the subject, and sixty hours or four semester units of coursework in understanding the needs of older adults.
  • Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience teaching Emeritus courses for adult education or community college.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty to maintain curriculum relevance for historically underrepresented students.
  • Demonstrated success in helping students from historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups.
