About The Position

JOB DESCRIPTION Course Information: Part-time, temporary, hourly assignments are on an as-needed basis. Various schedules and locations are available. Hours will vary depending on class(es) assigned. Most DSS classes are offered Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Essential Functions ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Examples of essential functions are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree with any of the following majors: Education of students with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to persons with disabilities.
  • An associate degree with one of the majors specified above AND Four years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category or categories being served.
  • Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
  • The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Experience teaching DSS courses for an adult education or community college institution.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, and classroom practices in order to effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted student populations with the goal of closing equity gaps.
  • Possession of strong computer skills and ability to learn and effectively use technology and software.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate 21st century learning skills and digital literacy effectively into instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in working with individuals with disabilities including developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and attention-deficit disorder. Emphasis on individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.
  • Understanding of, and the ability to implement, effective online instructional strategies.
  • Experience teaching distance education courses, including demonstrated experience with online learning management systems ( LMS ) such as Canvas.
  • NOTE : Instructors are expected to comply with the training requirements to teach online or remotely as determined by Campus standards. Currently, NOCE instructors must possess one of the following to be eligible for an online teaching assignment: NOCE Online Teaching Certification (“OTC”) @ONE Online Teaching Certificate including all of the following training courses: Introduction to Course Design 10-10-10: Communication That Matters Assessment in Digital Learning Creating Accessible Course Content Online Teaching & Design Capstone Equivalency to NOCE Online Teaching Certificate (“OTC”), as approved by the NOCE Distance Education Advisory Group.
