The position involves comprehensive training and orientation in various areas related to law enforcement and community service. This includes training at the McKinley County Metro Dispatch Authority, courtroom observation at the McKinley County Adult Detention Center, and participation in ride-alongs with police patrols and the Investigations Unit. The training covers Department Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.), use of force protocols, civil liability, handcuffing techniques, and defensive tactics. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities such as patrolling city streets, parks, and residential areas, traffic control, and community-oriented policing. The position also requires the preparation of reports and documentation related to law enforcement activities, as well as assisting in community service duties after completing the internal department CSA academy.

  • Investigate misdemeanors and felonies

  • Valid New Mexico driver's license within 30 days of hire
  • Must meet City's insurability requirements
  • No felony convictions
  • No restraining orders
  • No DWI convictions within the last 3 years
  • No illegal drug use, including marijuana within the last 3 years
  • No domestic violence arrests or convictions
  • No dishonorable military discharge
  • No previous resignations in lieu of terminations from any law enforcement agency
  • Must pass background check and all applicable pre-employment screening and testing
  • Starting hourly pay of $18.42
