About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Ophthalmic Technical Supervisor, and through collaborative teamwork, provides assistance in the diagnosis and care of ophthalmic patients.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Ophthalmology is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates patient work-ups in the ophthalmology clinics in a timely manner, including visual acuities, pin-hole acuities, past medical and ocular history, confrontational visual field, Amsler, automated and manual lensometry, automated perimetry, Goldmann tonometry, Tono-Pen tonometry, color vision testing (Ishihara), refractometry, and patient education.
  • Performs keratometry, photokeratometry, and corneal topography.
  • Assists with minor OR and laser procedures, including instrument set-up, knowledge of sterile technique, instrument cleaning, and sterilization.
  • Exercises proficiency in minor equipment maintenance and logs equipment repairs for contracted maintenance.
  • Performs visometry and BAT (Brightness Acuity Test).
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the environment, ensuring a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
  • Checks equipment/supplies for expiration dates, electrical safety tags, intactness, and usability.
  • Cleans equipment and returns it to its proper place, reporting any equipment and supplies needing replacement or repair.
  • Stocks rooms, carts, cabinets, etc. as assigned/requested.
  • Respects and supports patient rights, serving as a patient/family advocate.
  • Demonstrates character and trustworthiness by practicing principles of patient and employee confidentiality.
  • Utilizes available resources and seeks assistance in dealing with ethical dilemmas, as appropriate.
  • Practices positive customer and peer relations, consistently communicating in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Reports and seeks assistance in dealing with guest complaints/concerns, establishing and maintaining a positive rapport with patients/families and coworkers.
  • Participates in and supports continuous quality improvement activities at the clinic/departmental level, embracing change and promoting teamwork.
  • Utilizes and values feedback to continuously improve performance, demonstrating acceptable productivity and practicing cost containment.
  • Prioritizes and completes all work effectively and efficiently, demonstrating initiative, resourcefulness, and flexibility.
