Responsible for preparing and staining tissue specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist. In doing so, processes specimens by performing frozen sections, embedding tissue into paraffin blocks, performing microtomy to section tissue, selecting optimal tissue sections by floating them onto glass slides and staining or treating tissue sections with reagents so as to reveal specific structural details during microscopic analysis. Position is responsible for operating and the general maintenance of laboratory equipment in addition to the preparation and utilization of laboratory solutions and reagents as needed to histologically process anatomic tissue specimens. Position requires attention to detail, knowledge of the chemical rationale of the staining procedures performed, and the skills required to recognize and remedy technical difficulties encountered with the processing of tissue samples.
