About The Position

The Hospitalist provides essential medical care services to the inpatient population during night shifts (7pm to 7am). This role involves admitting patients, coordinating inpatient care, and ensuring proper discharge processes. The Hospitalist collaborates with various medical disciplines to deliver excellent patient care, complete necessary documentation, and engage in hospital care improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Must meet all criteria necessary for Medical Staff privileges in the area of Adult Hospitalist.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of medicine or osteopathy.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Virginia.
  • Active DEA License required.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR certification required.
  • AHA ACLS certification required.
  • Eligible for participation in Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party insurances.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine or Board Eligible within 5 years of residency completion.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Hospitalist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Admits patients to the inpatient service of the hospital.
  • Plans, implements, and directs the multidisciplinary team in the provision of inpatient services.
  • Completes History and Physical Exams, orders laboratory tests, and radiographic examinations as appropriate.
  • Orders treatments and medications based on patient conditions.
  • Responds to CODE BLUE and acute emergencies as required.
  • Answers calls from nursing staff regarding patients needing medical attention.
  • Arranges and conducts family meetings when appropriate.
  • Plans and coordinates care with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Consults specialty physicians as indicated by patient conditions.
  • Practices evidence-based medicine and utilizes standardized protocols.
  • Prepares medical records and patient progress notes in a timely manner.
  • Enters appropriate diagnostic and billing codes into the facility-designated system within 24 hours.
  • Participates in patient satisfaction, utilization management, and quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in employer orientation, compliance, and mandatory training programs.
  • Serves on facility committees as requested.
  • Complies with applicable Rules and Regulations of the facility.
